Local Jev alternatives: models, adapters and hardware

A local Jev alternative can provide typed decisions without using TypeSafe's hosted model. Choose between independent trained models and adapters for existing LLMs, then verify the specific checkpoint, runtime and probabilities your application will use.

Independent models to compare

The word “Jev-like” describes a relationship to a decision interface or design pattern. It does not establish that a project contains the official Jev weights, uses the same training method, or produces equivalent judgments.

Different implementations of typed decisions
ProjectWhat its source describesWhat to check
LayaAn independent, non-autoregressive decision engine with typed outputs and several runtime options.Checkpoint, language, runtime, dtype and threshold behavior.
LEV by InterfazeAIA Qwen-based decision model and harness exposing a System One-compatible protocol.Adapter/base-model pairing, language scope and serving hardware.
Kev by jaredpalmerA family of decision models that can be run or trained independently. The selected weights, runtime, training data and evaluation split.
Jeff by logan-markewichA self-hosted System One implementation backed by GLiFormer.Supported answer shapes and workload-specific accuracy.
JevK5An independent open-weight decision model with a TypeSafe-style endpoint.Weight license, GPU needs, server version and held-out results.

Read those owners' READMEs rather than comparing names alone. There are several projects named LEV, Kev or Jeff. The directory helps find candidates, but an integration label is not a substitute for the actual architecture described in a repository.

Adapters are another option

NotJev and Jevify adapt other models to bounded questions. Their documentation describes reading option probabilities from model outputs or logits. The official System One Adapter instead provides an evaluation interface backed by LLM APIs and configurable response modes.

An adapter can reuse an existing serving stack, but probability support, tokenization, prompt construction and response modes affect the result. A JSON response with a confidence field is not by itself evidence of calibrated confidence. Test the implementation and backend together.

Other names such as NanoJev, Mini-Jev, OpenJev, Rizzo Flow, MoJev or OpenJev Verdict identify separate community experiments. Locate the exact owner and release before borrowing an installation command or a benchmark result. Small parameter counts and an open repository do not establish production suitability.

CPU, Apple Silicon, MLX and GPUs

Running a TypeSafe client on a CPU only moves the client there; the hosted inference remains remote. For an independent local model, verify the runtime's supported devices, model size, memory needs, batch size and input limits.

Laya's README documents CPU and MPS paths as well as other runtimes. LEV notes that CPU compatibility and practical real-time GPU use differ. Jev Visual uses Qwen with MLX on Apple Silicon and is a separate multimodal experiment. Do not assume an MLX port, ONNX export and original Python runtime emit interchangeable probabilities.

A fair comparison on your own workload

  1. Use the same states, questions, answer definitions and labeled holdout set.
  2. Record exact model IDs, checkpoints, runtime versions and numerical precision.
  3. Measure errors and review coverage together; a system that declines more cases may appear more accurate.
  4. Measure cold start, warm latency, throughput and memory separately.
  5. Count hardware, serving and review costs as well as API charges.

For a private workload, use synthetic or approved examples before introducing actual data. Verify whether the backend, logging and telemetry are local; an open-source wrapper can still forward requests to a remote provider. The benchmark guide explains the evidence needed for a defensible comparison.
